From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

About the team

Great user experiences come from people who have the vision to see the big picture while still maintaining an incredible attention to detail. The User Experience team at Roku comprises UX designers, researchers, and writers who work collaboratively with our world-class Product and Engineering teams to meet customer needs for a Roku experience that delivers simplicity and delight. About the role

This role is dedicated to Roku TV (RTV). You’ll join the team shaping the vision and execution of our TV products and features, ensuring they continue to set the global benchmark for performance and ease of use.

In this role, you’ll deeply understand how people interact with Roku devices and ensure a cohesive, simple experience across partner brands and device tiers. You’ll operate at the crucial intersection of physical hardware and the Roku OS. Your insights will uncover user needs and pain points and directly drive the evolution of new TV experiences - from out-of-the-box setup and hardware performance to picture quality optimization and the future of TV hardware - making a tangible, visible impact across Roku’s most widely used experiences.

You’ll partner closely with Product Management, Design, and Engineering to align research with technical roadmaps and business priorities, turning insights into decisions that ship. Together, you’ll ensure Roku delivers a simple, delightful entertainment experience that is grounded in user needs and felt across every TV we build.

For California Only - The estimated annual base salary for this position is between $140,000 - $150,000 annually. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location. This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.

Whatyou'll be doing

  • Develop, plan, and execute research initiatives in collaboration with UX Research managers, other UX researchers, product managers, leaders at Roku, UX and visual designers, and others
  • Utilize your research insights to influence the selection, definition, and design of product offerings that maximize engagement, leading to high customer retention
  • Collect and analyze user behavior through both generative and evaluative methodologies
  • Effectively present research insights to diverse stakeholder audiences through written reports and presentations
  • Work closely with multiple key stakeholders to identify the problems and business goals that your research will address
  • Be a deeply embedded member of product teams, while also being a strong collaborator on the UX research team

We’re excited if you have

  • 2 to 3 years' experience as a UX Researcher in industry settings (not including academic experience)
  • Proven skill with a broad methodological toolkit, including interviews, usability testing, surveys, field studies, diary studies, and quantitative analysis
  • Confidence in selecting the most appropriate methods for a given problem or question
  • Experience collaborating with teams of business leaders, designers, researchers, and product managers throughout the planning and development process
  • Experience gathering and understanding business strategy, and finding the right balance between user and business needs
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills
  • Experience with mixed methods research
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to define, plan, and lead projects forward
  • Experience in the entertainment field, working with teams producing TV/Movies, is a plus
  • An ability to operate with appropriate guidance: You have experience contributing to and, when appropriate, leading parts of the research approach for whole products, including multi-phase planning; building relationships with stakeholders and including them in the process; and proactively suggesting research needs/methods in partnership with your manager and cross-functional teammates
  • Comfortable with accepting guidance from UX Research managers or senior-level researchers to optimize the research approach, as well as from non-research stakeholders
  • A passion for researching people

The Roku Culture

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
