Sr. Data Engineer — Amoeba (Experimentation Platform)

About the team

The mission of Roku's Data Engineering team is to develop a world-class big data platform so that internal and external customers can leverage data to grow their businesses. Data Engineering works closely with business partners and Engineering teams to collect metrics on existing and new initiatives that are critical to business success. As Senior Data Engineer on the Amoeba team, you will contribute to Roku's experimentation platform — the system that powers A/B testing, feature rollouts, and product decision-making across every Roku surface. This position is a key role in enabling Roku's product and engineering teams to make data-driven decisions at scale.

About the role

As a Sr. Data Engineer on Amoeba, your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and maintain the data pipelines and infrastructure that power Roku's experimentation platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams — product engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders — to ensure experiment data is accurate, timely, and scalable. Additionally, you will play a key role in evolving the Amoeba data architecture, optimizing large-scale workloads, and enabling self-serve experiment analytics for the broader organization.

This role requires hybrid working; you will be based in Bangalore.

What you'll be doing

  • Own and evolve the data pipelines that power Roku's experimentation platform, ingesting event and configuration data into the Big Data Platform
  • Design, build, and maintain orchestrated data workflows for experiment aggregations, metric computation, and downstream data delivery
  • Develop distributed data processing jobs for large-scale event processing and experiment analytics
  • Partner closely with Amoeba product engineering to align data contracts and ingestion patterns
  • Participate in architecture discussions, influence the Amoeba data roadmap, and take ownership of the data layer of Roku's experimentation platform
  • Support migration and modernization efforts across storage formats and cross-cloud workloads
  • Ensure data quality, freshness, and observability across all Amoeba pipelines

We're excited if you have

  • 5+ years professional experience as a data or software engineer, with more than 3 years building large-scale data pipelines in production
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language, Python is required
  • Deep experience with big data technologies: Spark, Airflow, Hive, Kafka, Presto/Trino, HDFS
  • Experience with Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure — hybrid/cross-cloud experience a plus
  • Experience with experimentation platforms, A/B testing infrastructure, or event-driven data systems is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with modern table formats (Iceberg, Delta, Hudi) is a plus
  • AI literacy and an AI growth mindset
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams — product engineers, analysts, data scientists — to translate requirements into robust data solutions
  • BS in Computer Science; MS in Computer Science preferred

What should I know about Roku's culture?

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
