Senior Software Engineer - Smart home, C++

About The Team

Our mission is to design and deliver Roku’s Smart Home OS, the operating system behind our growing portfolio of IoT devices that enhance and extend our TV solutions. We work closely with internal NPI teams, hardware vendors, and ODMs to ensure our OS is portable, scalable, and optimised to run across a wide range of smart home products — all while maintaining exceptional performance on minimal hardware.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll join a talented and experienced group responsible for core OS architecture and implementation across Roku’s Smart Home product line.

This is a high-impac role with strong cross-functional visibility. You’ll need to bring a proven background in architecting, developing, and porting software for new hardware platforms — from early prototype through to mass production. What You’ll Be Doing

• Architecting and developing key features within Roku’s proprietary Smart Home RTOS (written in C)
• Optimising for real-time performance and low battery consumption
• Designing and implementing integration layers between Smart Home OS and RokuTV OS
• Working with SoC vendors on porting requirements and abstraction layers
• Building scalable, maintainable OS codebases across product lines
• Collaborating closely with internal QA and development teams

We’re Excited If You Have

• Extensive years of relevant software development experience
• Experience of professional C/C++ programming experience, ideally as a Sr. Engineer
• Hands-on experience working with RTOS environments
• A strong background in IoT devices, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance engineering environment
• Clear, candid communication skills and a team-first attitude
• Experience working effectively within cross-functional, global teams
• (Bonus) Familiarity with Python
• (Nice to have) Experience working on international product development
