What you'll be doing

  • Design, implement, and operate complex build systems in monolithic and multi-repository environments.
  • Design build systems for embedded software products including set-top boxes, televisions, and soundbar speakers.
  • Build systems that bring together all components of a software product and enable it to function on low-powered hardware found in embedded systems.
  • Provide overall embedded software architecture to ensure released software products work efficiently with the hardware where they are embedded, including designing storage, memory, and processing limitations.
  • Operate the build system in partnership with all software development teams, providing feature enhancements and bug fixes for engineers within the build system.
  • Interpret the output from the build system to both understand the build system as well as the development goals of all the different engineering teams to ensure timely and accurate support.

You are required to have

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
  • 2 years experience in position or related occupation such as Software Engineer, Software Engineering Intern, Member of Technical Staff.
  • Must have prior work experience or coursework in each of the following:
    • Designing, implementing, and operating complex build systems in both monolithic and multi-repository environments, in embedded systems engineering and specialized embedded systems build tools, including Open Embedded, BitBake, Bazel, Make, and CMake
    • C++ and Python, with focus on debugging build and integration flows, as well as performing system-level performance profiling using tools including perf and Bazel profiling tools to enable data-driven optimization
    • GitLab CI/CD, including writing and maintaining YAML-based pipelines, building internal developer tooling, and integrating automation systems to streamline builds, testing, and releases
    • Tracking and coordinating across teams using Jira
    • Docker and deploying builds and tests in containerized and cloud-based environments, including AWS, to ensure environmental consistency and build reproducibility
    • Git and scripting languages, including Bash and PowerShell, with OS-level constraints and a proven ability to collaborate across teams to align and evolve build strategies and developer workflows
    • Software architecture to perform software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications or operating systems according to provided design specifications
    • Analyze and improve build systems by optimizing dependency management and enhancing overall build throughput to support complex and distributed development environments
    • Design and maintain robust testing systems, including remote execution capabilities, to accelerate feedback loops and ensure consistency across local and distributed environments
    • Integrate automation into development workflows to streamline builds, testing, and releases, ensuring alignment across teams and reducing manual overhead in the build-test-deploy lifecycle

Up to one day per week telecommuting may be permitted.
