Yes, but we recommend focusing your application on the role that’s the best fit for your skills and interests.
Your assessment process will be tailored to the role you are applying for. In most cases, it will consist of two stages, with the final stage being an interview with the hiring manager.
For engineering and machine learning roles, we use an AI fluency assessment. This evaluates how you problem-solve and build with agentic tools – not just what you know about them.
For non-engineering roles, your assessment will be designed around the role you are applying for. In many cases, this will also include an AI assessment. This is because Roku is a very AI-fluent organization where AI competence matters.
These are the four key factors we measure against when assessing your suitability for an internship role:
- Bias for Action: We are independent thinkers who are action oriented. We are proactive and have an emphasis on moving quickly, making timely decisions, and operating efficiently. We do not get stuck in 'analysis paralysis.'
- Comfort with Ambiguity: We demonstrate adaptability and resilience in a dynamic landscape where objectives and goals often change. We remain open to new ideas, perspectives, and ways of doing things. We gather all the information we can and make the best decision possible, even when all the facts and data are not available. We are comfortable moving forward, knowing that we can always adjust course.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Roku relies on everyone to identify problems and opportunities and propose solutions - even if it is not clear it is your job. We have an ownership mentality. When something is not working, we figure out a way to fix it, and, when appropriate, engage necessary stakeholders to fix the situation.
- Collaborative Approach: We encourage excellent teamwork. Strategic decisions are made inclusively with an appropriate amount of consensus building. We recognize that, to get big things done, it takes a team. We reach out and ask our peers to help, are easy to work with, and keep our egos in check.
“Interns will build skills, confidence and relationships that will last them far beyond the summer.”
