What you'll be doing

  • Design and develop core features of Roku Operating System (OS) Application framework.
  • Work on the code base to fix bugs and develop new software features.
  • Work with the Product Development, UI design, Platform Services, and Release Management teams to contribute to Roku’s overall application development.
  • Analyze user needs and find the root cause of issues using debugging tools.
  • Write code using C++ and Brightscript technologies.
  • Implement smart performant algorithms to solve problems around parsing and rendering data from the Roku network.
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve issues within the Roku Platform by breaking down the issue and tracking in JIRA software, a proprietary issue tracking product for bug tracking and agile project management.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to determine design specifications and work on developing time software business solutions that optimize operational efficiency.

Up to two days per week telecommuting may be permitted.

 

You are required to have

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in the position or a related occupation.
  • Will also accept Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience in the position or a related occupation.
  • Must have at least 1 year of prior work experience in the following:
    1. Embedded System based on Linux Operating System.
    2. Consumer Electronics and media codecs, streaming experience.
    3. High level design architecture of complex systems.
    4. API design considerations and tradeoffs.
    5. Memory management and multi-threaded development.
    6. Data structure and algorithm implementation.
    7. Writing functional and integration tests.
    8. Continuous Integration and Deployment tooling such as Gitlab, Jenkins.
